Mitch Pearson leads a team of learning and development experts who guide the people development at Rio Tinto Kennecott’s world-class, integrated copper mining operation located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is even today one of the top producing mines in the world. The operation includes the open pit mine, a concentrator, smelter, and a refinery.

Mitch has a degree in Business Management and has enjoyed a successful tenured career in mining and manufacturing providing strategies to improve trainings impact on the business from a performance and safety perspective.

Known for his passion for technology, Mitch is a champion of using it to improve daily life and work performance. His current focus is developing a learning strategy that uses Simulation and XR environments to increase safety and knowledge through immersive learning and leveraging technology to mitigate dangerous tasks associated with mining, manufacturing, smelting and refining environments.

When Mitch isn’t working, you can find him spending time with his family, traveling, or working on cars.
