Mike Hughes leads Cummins’ Digital Engineering group in Research and Technology, drawing on nearly two decades of experience in modeling and simulation, connected vehicle technology, digital twins, and XR/VR solutions. Over his career, he has established more than ten XR/VR labs and integrated these capabilities into both customer-facing products and internal operations—from design centers and manufacturing to service. More recently, Mike focuses on designing next-generation connected vehicle architectures and features that leverage digital twins, underscoring his expertise in bridging physical and digital domains. He also holds multiple patents in the digital twin space, highlighting his commitment to innovation. Most recently, Mike launched Cummins’ first industrial community STEM Design and Innovation studio, partnering with seven schools to accelerate STEM education and bridge to industry pathways. He resides in Greenwood, Indiana, with his wife, Amber, and their two sons, Griffin and Hudson.
